The Wrong Information…..again

Yet another blog appeared the other day trying to explain the differences between botulinum toxin and dermal fillers. The headline shouted “….Same Thing Different Name?” Headlines such as these are highly misleading to readers….why even suggest that these two types of aesthetic treatment product are similar? They are most definitely NOT!

Generally, much of the content was reasonable….except where, for example, they suggested that the effects of botulinum toxin might last for 1.5 years. That is also misleading and may even give, at worst, false “hope” to patients who would like a long term of action for a single treatment.

Several of the pictures they included showed typical “actress” shots of faces that had been quite dramatically slimmed down with botulinum toxin treatments. What a pity they didnt take the opportunity to show some great pictures of the natural look after treatment for both men and women, the look that just about everybody would like these days. Look good – feel good. Look thin – feel….?

Our appeal to all these bloggers is always the same. Please….check your facts, make the content of your blog accurate and try and help people with facts….not fiction

Why can’t they get the information right ?

A blog appeared the other day with such incorrect information about a botulinum toxin product…..

It always seems very strange to us that blogs, reporters, commentators – any of these and more – cannot get the information about the products, toxin or filler, correct in their postings.  Why are they so wrong?  Its simple!

Many bloggers and commentators never bother to research the toxin or filler subjects correctly.  They use a source of a source of a source.  Which means that any errors are magnified many times.  This is so unhelpful to patients.  And can also be highly misleading and dangerous……

So, if you are a patient, don’t trust the blogs!  If you are commentator….get it right!  Go to the manufacturers web sites and read for yourself directly from the prime information sources….

A Real Difference !

Many patients often get confused about the difference between botulinum toxin (usually called Botox) and dermal fillers.  They can ask for one and mean the other!  So what is the real difference?  How can you explain this to patients?

Its simple really.  Botulinum toxin relaxes muscles.  Dermal fillers “fill in” wrinkles.  Toxin is active: filler is passive.  You can relax the muscles with toxin but often wrinkles remain behind.  Filler can help get rid of those wrinkles.  You can fill wrinkles but you can still “frown”.

So the two products complement each other.  You can use each of them on their own but the best results for the patient are usually when the two types are used together.

Both are natural products.  They come from natural sources.  They are not synthetic.

Try and explain this carefully and simply to patients so that they are not confused.  Try not to use brand names….this can only confuse patients even more.
